Track Exit Interviews with Survey Tools for Windows
If your organization experiences high turnover, you should be conducting comprehensive
exit interviews and tracking the results. You should be doing these interviews
in addition to your annual employee attitude survey. The annual survey will uncover
problems before employees start to leave. However, regular exit interviews can
reveal new problems that have occurred since you conducted your last annual survey.
Both are advisable.
A number of our clients use Survey
Tools for Windows to create exit interview questionnaires
and to track the results. Since Survey Tools for Windows handles
open-ended, demographic and attitudinal questions, it is easy to collect
the information that you need.
In order to track changes over time, you can include a demographic question
that identifies the quarter in which the employee left and possibly another
one that identifies the year. This will allow you to see which issues are getting
worse quarter by quarter and year by year. Since exit interviews are not anonymous,
you can collect much more demographic information than you would in an annual
employee survey (there is no need to worry about identifying individuals).
To make the person who is leaving feel more comfortable and to encourage
candor, you can have the employee complete the survey on the PC without anyone
else present. For more tips on using Survey Tools for Windows for
exit interviews, please call Dr. Steinberg at (888) 725-9392 or E-mail us.
